Foxconn Reports Record Quarterly Profit on AI Server Demand
Taiwan's electronics giant delivered NT$59.98 billion in second-quarter earnings, exceeding analyst expectations as cloud providers accelerate infrastructure spending

KEY TAKEAWAYS
- ·Hon Hai Precision Industry posted NT$59.98 billion in second-quarter net income, a 35 percent year-on-year increase and a company record.
- ·Cloud and networking products generated 51 percent of the NT$2.53 trillion quarterly revenue, with AI server rack shipments expected to more than double in 2026.
- ·Capital expenditure totaled NT$80.9 billion in the first half and will continue rising as the company expands capacity in Taiwan, the US, Mexico, and Vietnam.
Record Performance Fueled by Cloud Infrastructure Boom
Hon Hai Precision Industry delivered second-quarter net income of NT$59.98 billion, marking the highest single-quarter result in company history. The figure represents a 35 percent increase from the previous year and surpassed the NT$58 billion consensus forecast among financial analysts, according to the company.
The iPhone assembler's per-share earnings climbed to NT$4.27 during the April-June period, compared with NT$3.19 in the same quarter last year. Chief financial officer David Huang disclosed the results during the company's investor briefing, noting that improved cost management helped offset margin pressures from product portfolio shifts.
Gross margin contracted to 6.12 percent from 6.33 percent year-on-year, reflecting changes in the revenue composition. Operating margin, however, expanded to 3.75 percent from 3.16 percent as the company tightened expense discipline. Management projects operating margin will remain above 3.2 percent through December.
Cloud Giants Drive Infrastructure Investment Wave
The earnings surge stems primarily from sustained hardware purchases by large US-based cloud platforms building out artificial intelligence infrastructure. Rotating chief executive officer Michael Chiang indicated these technology companies are on track to deploy more than US$1 trillion in capital spending during 2027.
Hon Hai manufactures server systems equipped with Nvidia accelerators for major data center operators. The company anticipates AI server rack deliveries will climb by a high double-digit percentage sequentially in the current quarter, with corresponding revenue increases. For the full calendar year, management expects rack shipments to more than double the 2025 baseline.
The manufacturer plans to commence deliveries of server systems built around Nvidia's Vera Rubin architecture during the October-December period. Chiang stated these next-generation platforms should become a significant revenue contributor in 2027, with Hon Hai targeting a 50 percent market share for Vera Rubin-based configurations.
Beyond AI-specific hardware, the company expressed confidence in traditional server demand, projecting double-digit percentage growth in general-purpose systems for the current year. Hon Hai has also secured additional customers for application-specific integrated circuit-based server products, expanding its addressable market.
Revenue Mix Shifts Toward Data Center Products
Cloud and networking equipment accounted for 51 percent of Hon Hai's NT$2.53 trillion quarterly revenue. Smart consumer electronics, including smartphones, represented 29 percent of sales, while computing products contributed 15 percent. Components and other categories made up the remaining 5 percent.
For the September quarter, management anticipates strong sequential growth in cloud and networking revenue as AI server rack production accelerates. Consumer electronics sales should rise substantially on seasonal smartphone demand heading into the year-end holiday period. Computing product revenue may decline slightly due to memory component availability constraints, while components and other products are expected to hold steady.
Capacity Expansion Across Multiple Geographies
Capital spending reached NT$80.9 billion in the first half, up NT$3.7 billion from the prior-year period. Huang indicated investment will continue climbing as the company adds manufacturing footprint in Taiwan, the United States, Mexico, and Vietnam. Total capital expenditure for 2025 amounted to NT$173.8 billion.
The capacity additions align with Hon Hai's strategy to diversify production locations and meet rising demand from both AI infrastructure and consumer electronics customers. The company's dual role as Apple's primary iPhone manufacturer and a leading AI server supplier positions it at the intersection of two high-growth hardware categories.
Taiwan's electronics manufacturing sector has benefited from the AI infrastructure buildout, with server and networking equipment demand providing a counterbalance to cyclical pressures in traditional computing markets. Hon Hai's results underscore the revenue concentration emerging around data center hardware as cloud platforms race to deploy large language models and other compute-intensive applications.
The company's margin profile reflects the competitive dynamics of contract manufacturing, where scale and operational efficiency determine profitability. Management's ability to expand operating margin despite gross margin compression suggests progress in overhead management and product mix optimization, though the relatively thin margins remain characteristic of the industry.
Looking ahead, Hon Hai's performance will hinge on the pace of AI infrastructure spending by hyperscale cloud operators and the company's success in capturing market share for next-generation server platforms. The planned ramp of Vera Rubin-based systems represents both an opportunity and an execution challenge, requiring coordination across supply chain partners and alignment with customer deployment schedules.
