Geespace, backed by automotive conglomerate Geely, now holds the authority to deploy and test satellite IoT services commercially across Chinese territory. What Satellite IoT Unlocks
Satellite IoT networks connect sensors, trackers, and devices in areas beyond terrestrial cellular coverage - remote agricultural zones, offshore maritime routes, cross-border logistics corridors, and mining operations. China's domestic demand for such connectivity has grown alongside its Belt and Road infrastructure projects, which often operate in regions lacking reliable ground networks.

Geely's Space Ambitions
Geely, best known for its automotive holdings including Volvo and Lotus, has invested in satellite constellation projects since 2018. Geespace is developing a low-Earth-orbit network designed to support connected vehicles, autonomous logistics fleets, and industrial IoT deployments across Asia.
The constellation plan calls for an initial deployment of 72 satellites by 2027, with expansion to 240 satellites by 2030. Geespace has already launched nine satellites as of mid-2026, according to company filings. The commercial trial approval allows the company to monetize capacity on these early-phase assets while building out the full network.
Geely's entry into satellite operations mirrors strategies pursued by other automakers seeking to vertically integrate connectivity layers for autonomous and electric vehicle platforms. China's large geography and diverse industrial base create significant addressable demand for satellite IoT.
